Elmira residents got a chance to voice their opinions about a 17 percent property tax hike Tuesday.

It was their first opportunity to speak in front of the entire city council.

Some of the people who spoke said they might have to move because of the costs.

Elmira resident Pat Trainer said she's lived in the city for decades, but that doesn't mean she'll stay.

"I would have to consider it,” said Trainor. “I've lived in that house, since 70 years, minus 8. So that's 62 years. That's my home. So i would really hate to but I would have to consider it."

The budget is set to be voted on March 5.
