A Texas woman hit by a car in the Southern Tier back in September is getting ready to return home, but not before saying goodbye as finishes a stint of rehabilitation at a center in Bath.

Christina McClendon got a Texas sized farewell from people at the Steuben Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Bath.

She spent four months recovering from leg surgery after being hit by a car outside Wal-Mart in Horseheads. She was rushed to Guthrie Hospital in Corning. After surgery she went to the rehabilitation center. It’s there that she’s spent all her time.

McClendon was forced to spend Christmas away from her family. So, during the holiday, she said she didn’t want to just sit in bed, so she asked the staff what she could do. The staff told her she could help wrap presents. But that wasn’t all she did.  She delivered presents to other patients in the rehab center.

"I have really been working to be present in the moment and I know if i think about what's happened to me it's really sad and frustrating but I just felt like I had an opportunity to meet so many people and get to know them." said McClendon.

McClendon will continue working with the VA as she continues physical therapy.
