BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- A new councilwoman has been appointed by the city of Binghamton.

Sophia Resciniti will be representing district two in Binghamton.

Wednesday, the council unanimously voted for Resciniti to fill the empty seat.

Resciniti has been the director of field education in Binghamton University's Department of Social Work.

She received both her master and bachelor degrees from Binghamton University.

"It's a tremendous honor it's a privilege, this is my home I'm looking so forward to working with everyone involved to represent district two and to do the best that we can for our city,” she said.

Joe Mihalko served as councilman previously; he is now the Broome County clerk.
