A Sidney man is ringing in the new year $1 million richer.

Donald Savastano took home the prize Wednesday after winning on a holiday-themed scratch off ticket about a month ago.

The 51-year-old says he picks up scratch-off tickets pretty regularly, but doesn't normally play holiday tickets. Savastano decided to purchase two $10 "Merry Millionaire" tickets, and soon realized he had won the jackpot.

The self-employed carpenter says the money will go a long way to ensure he can live a comfortable future.

"I've never had a retirement plan before," Savastano said, "so I plan on having a retirement plan now, getting a truck and paying off some bills and investing a little bit."

Savastano takes home a net check totaling nearly $662,000 after taxes.
