SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Red Cross is honoring 12 individuals for their bravery, sacrifice, and heroic actions.

This year's Real Heroes were the toast of the town at the annual Red Cross Breakfast Wednesday morning.

They range from law enforcement officers to a dog and its owner who assisted in a rescue.

Each individual performed some sort of life saving action, but organizers say none of them expected to be recognized.

"In many cases we're honoring people who, ordinary people who through daily routines have found themselves in a situation where they could save a life, and they have.  So we have someone who was eating at a diner, another person who was on a walk. A neighbor's house was on fire and he ran into the home to save her," said American Red Cross Communications Manager Dan Hartman.

Spectrum News Sports Director Mark Larson was the emcee for the Real Heroes breakfast. And we will be sharing the stories of the honorees.
