BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Binghamton Mayor Rich David earned a second term Tuesday night after a resounding defeat of Democratic challenger Tark Abdelazim.

David told supporters gathered in downtown Binghamton that the victory was recognition of the work they put in over the last four years, calling out what he called progress in the areas of crime and infrastructure.

"We have worked everyday to deliver results and take action to benefit the residents of this city. We have let our actions speak for themselves and the people of this city of responded accordingly," he said.

The incumbent garnered 59 percent of the vote. Just over 8,700 ballots were cast in the race.

"Of course I'm a little disappointed, but I ran, I think, an inspiring campaign," Abdelazim said. "I'm pleased with how we performed."
