A SUNY Broome freshman is dead after a car accident earlier this week.
Officials say Miranda Gifford, of Rome, was on Canal Street in Oxford on Monday when her car veered into oncoming traffic and hit a service truck.
The other driver and his passenger were OK, but Gifford sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to an area hospital.
She passed away from her injuries Wednesday night.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Gifford was a Homeland Security major and played on the university's softball and basketball teams.
The campus community is offering counseling to students and staff.
