ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Rochester police say a man found shot early Saturday morning on the city's north side has died from his injuries.

Officers pulled up to Scrantom Street near North Clinton Avenue to find man laying in the street with a gunshot wound shortly before 1 p.m.

He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital where he later died.

Later in the day a memorial was found at the scene of the shooting.

George Deporras says he's best friends with the victim's father and knows the family.

"He's a good kid man, he never got into trouble," said Deporras. "I don't know why they did that to him. You know, God bless him and God bless his soul. I love him, I miss him. I can't say anything else, you know, he was a good kid man."

Family members have identified the victim as Kevin Waterman.
