As Binghamton University continues to expand downtown, the relationship between students and the community has become strained. A new committee is working to change that.

The Town Gown Advisory Board met for the first time Wednesday night. It's a group of 34 city leaders, business owners and BU students. Their goal is to open a dialogue and share resources.

"I think we have a good relationship, but I think there's room for improvement," said co-chair Randall Edouard. "I think we can do great things together. I think there's so much we can tap on if we communicate much more."

The committee will meet three times per year.
