BRACKNEY, Penn. -- Part of a historic landmark in Susquehanna County has been severely damaged by fire.

The Brackney Inn, a popular bar and restaurant, caught fire around 4:30 p.m. Friday. The building also houses six apartments and that's where the fire is believed to have started.

The Silver Lake Fire Department and additional neighboring units put out most of the flames before damage could spread to the lower level.

Tenants and customers in the building were able to escape without injuries.

The landmark was built in 1849, and is adored by many.

"They're in awe. It's hard. They can't believe it. I can't believe it. We got the call yesterday. It was, 'Oh no,'" said Carolyn Finch, a member of the Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Company.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
