VESTAL, N.Y. -- It was a strike for the Binghamton Humane Society.

The organization hosted a bowling tournament at Midway Lanes in Vestal Saturday and 19 teams participated.

Organizers hope to raise a few thousand dollars.

The non-profit relies solely on donations and events like this to help cover expenses and get animals ready for adoption.

"So often they come in under nourished and they are never spayed or neutered so they are not up to date on their shots, they're going to be deflead, dewormed and get the appropriate medical care before they go to their forever homes," said Kim Broderick, Humane Society fundraising coordinator.

The event also included food and a number of raffle items.
