The man wanted in connection with a string of robberies in Binghamton has been arrested.

Darnell Watson is suspected of committing nine armed robberies in the city.

Authorities say his motive was driven by his drug addiction.

Police say he left the area and traveled to Philadelphia where he has family. That's where he was taken into custody Thursday evening.

Watson now faces multiple armed robbery charges in both states.

Additional charges are expected.

Binghamton Police Chief Joseph Zikuski said he believes Watson was trying to support a drug addiciton.

"This is a societal problem. Everybody sort of looks at the police when this happens, but it's soemthing that's going to take, it's not going to happen overnight, and these people get so addicted and they can't help themselves and this is the result of it," Zikuski said.

The investigation is continuing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Binghamton Police Detective Bureau at (607) 772-7080.
