BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- An active search continues as yet another armed robbery took place Thursday morning in the city of Binghamton.

A man entered the Mirabito on Downs Avenue around 9 a.m., demanding cash after telling the clerk he had a gun. This comes just a day after a robbery at the USA mart on Edwards Street.

The string of robberies began in September, with some happening twice in one day. In all cases, police arrived just minutes later, only for the suspect to escape.

Darnell Watson, 29, has been identified as the suspect in at least seven armed robberies throughout the city.

"He's staying at different locations. He doesn't stay anywhere very long and it's kind of difficult to track somebody like that. He doesn't necessarily have a normal vehicle he's driving all the time. He's on foot a lot, he gets rides with different people, things like that," said Broome County Sheriff's Capt. Kate Newcomb.

Nearly all of the robberies took place during the day.

With the suspect still at-large, Newcomb says it's important to stay on high alert if you need to stop at one of these gas stations in the next few days.

"If he enters a store that you are in as a customer or a clerk who works there, try not to engage him. We don't know if he can be dangerous. He hasn't been to date, but you never know," said Newcomb.

Watson was last seen dressed in all black, with white and black shoes and a mask. He's about 6 feet tall, weighing around 160 pounds.

Despite Watson eluding police each time, Newcomb says they're closing in.

"I'm very confident that we will locate him. Like I said, we are currently running down some leads. We do have some people cooperating in this investigation. We're running down leads and I feel very, very confident that we will get our man," said Newcomb.

Newcomb says she's confident several people are helping out the suspect and says they too can be charged with crimes for their role in these robberies.

Anyone with information on Watson's whereabouts is asked to contact the sheriff's office at 607-778-2053.
