People typically associate the colors orange and black with Halloween, but the Steuben Center is "thinking pink."

Residents at the nursing home and rehab facility came together Thursday to paint their pumpkins pink for breast cancer awareness.

Dozens got right to decorating with their paint brushes and ribbons, finishing nearly 40 pumpkins total.

Some even sporting the color pink themselves, in honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

While residents enjoy doing crafts each week, they say this one is extra special.

"I feel so passionate about hopefully finding a cure one day. For people to live full, healthy lives with their families,” said rehab patient Christina McClendon. “And this is just a small token, just something I can do while I'm here to show my support and love for them."

The pink pumpkins will be given out to survivors across the county.
