SPECTRUM NEWS VIDEO: A Southern Tier Tea Party event drew some opposition from residents.

Sunday, the group hosted an event where Republican Congresswoman Claudia Tenney was the keynote speaker.

Those who attended had to register and pay a fee.

Tenney discussed issues like tax reform, health care, and immigration. She also answered questions from the audience.

Meanwhile, residents who oppose Tenney gathered outside to protest. A few decided to pay the required fee and enter the event.

They say it was important to hear what their congresswoman had to say despite their own views.

"You know, newspaper articles are great. Interviews on TV are great, but there's nothing like having an one-on-one with a candidate to truly understand what their impression is of what's going on in this country and how they view making the necessary changes that will really help the constituents," said Kathy Utter, a Binghamton resident.

Due to receiving threats in the past, the Southern Tier Tea Party hired their own security for Congresswoman Tenney. Police were also present.
