VESTAL, N.Y. -- This week marks six years since the devastating flood of 2011 ravaged the Southern Tier and parts of Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Tropical Storm Lee forced the flooding of the Susquehanna River starting September 6th and continued through the 8th.

Several homes in Vestal were hit significantly hard, forcing hundreds to evacuate.

Some lost everything, while others hung around to rebuild.

But a number of homes remain in limbo after owners left them behind without anyone interested in purchasing them.

"If it happens again, we're hoping that we are just offered a buyout and get out. It's a lot of work to remodel once and I remodeled twice. I'm not going to do it a third time," said Vestal resident Wayne Klossner.

And with devastating images from Houston, residents can't help but feel for those who are going through what they went through.

"They're going through the same things. It's really hard. My heart goes out to them. It's really tough," said Klossner.

But residents say it's those tough times that brings the neighborhood together like never before.
