ULSTER, Penn. -- A freak accident on a Pennsylvania highway has left one man dead.

State police say 72-year-old John Maxwell Jr., of Ulster, Pennsylvania , was helping direct traffic around a log pile that had rolled into the road on Route 187 while another man was using a tractor to move the logs.

Officials say the pile shifted, knocking Maxwell off his feet.

He wound up hitting his head on the pavement below. The injury ultimately proved to be fatal.

State police say his death has been ruled accidental, and no charges are being filed.
