ELMIRA, N.Y. -- While most kids don't start school until next week, Finn Academy Charter School opened its doors Wednesday.

Teachers were at the school bright and early to welcome parents and students -- who were excited to be back after the summer break.

This year, teachers and administrators are looking forward to taking students out on more field trips, and spending time in the community. They say they can't wait to get started.

"So excited. It's just awesome to see our scholars again. They're very excited to be here. As wonderful as it was to welcome them for the very first time last year, it's truly remarkable to re-welcome them, already knowing them. So just a joy," said Finn Academy Head of School Maggie Thurber.

The school is only in its second year -- they currently enroll 248 students.
