BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- A man found guilty of a 2015 murder is given the maximum penalty.

Joshua Taylor was sentenced to 25 years to life for the shooting death of James High outside the Antler Lodge on Chenango Street.

Spectrum News caught up with his grieving mother, Linda High, following the sentencing. She says she's constantly dealing with depression, and feels her life will never be the same. But she’s now taking care of her grandson, and says it's a blessing to see him living through her own son.

High spoke about the hardships her family faces, and the difficulties her grandson deals with, not having a true father in the picture.

James High had actually been coaching his son through the basketball ranks just before he was murdered. His mother says she often reminds her grandson that her father is watching her from above and rooting him on.

But after more than 2 years, Linda High says her family finally has some closure.

"It won't bring my son back, but it will bring us some justice, and that's all we really wanted was some justice," she said. "He never showed any remorse in taking my son's life, but the judge did what he needed to do and prosecuted him to the fullest extent of the law, and I'm just so happy for that."

The Antler Lodge has since been shut down by the city.
