ONEONTA, N.Y. -- A New Rochelle man has died while in the custody of Oneonta Police.
Officers arrested 52-year-old Kenneth Faulkner Thursday evening.
It came following a lengthy investigation into drug trafficking in the city.
About half an hour after taking Faulkner into custody, officers conducted a body cavity search.
They say he became combative and forced the door to a holding cell closed, shutting himself inside.
Officers got in quickly, but before they could they say Faulkner ingested a substance believed to be cocaine.
He was taken to a local hospital, where he suffered medical complications and later died.
Police and the Otsego County District Attorney are still investigating Faulkner's death.
An autopsy will be performed in Binghamton.
