BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- It's been more than two years since James High was shot outside the Antler Lodge in Binghamton and later died at the hospital. Thursday, a jury found Joshua Taylor responsible.

"I think really what it came down to for them was having some time and judging by some of the questions they asked was to sit down and then just logically go through everything, put it together, look at it together," said prosecutor Peter DeLucia.

The jury deliberated for parts of two days before declaring Taylor guilty of second-degree murder and illegal weapons possession. During that time, they asked to see evidence again and have testimony re-read.

"Clearly this isn't something the jury came to immediately," said defense attorney Veronica Gorman. "They took their time and they considered all the evidence. For that, we thank them."

The shooting happened July 24, 2015, on Chenango Street. Taylor was arrested about a month later.

During the two-week trial, prosecutors used witness accounts and DNA evidence to argue their case.

"It was incredibly senseless, violent act," said DeLucia. "There was evidence on the record that a disturbance that predated it inside the club itself."

Last November, Taylor rejected a plea deal. It would have reduced the charge to first-degree manslaughter and meant 18 years-to-life in prison.

"Mr. Taylor happens to be one of the most polite, considerate and patient people I've ever met," said Gorman. "He was never difficult to work with. He respects the process, and that's why he chose to exercise his rights to a trial."

Taylor faces 25 years-to-life in prison when he's sentenced in December. After the verdict, Gorman said it's too early to talk about an appeal.
