Twenty-two more Upstate University Hospital employees are heading down to the frontlines of the fight against COVID-19.

The staff members left Syracuse Tuesday morning to head to Stony Brook University on Long Island.

The volunteers are made up of 12 nurses, two respiratory technicians, three pharmacists, and five pharmacist technicians.

They join the 22 Upstate nurses who made the trip down last week.

Medical professionals say when the call when out, there was no shortage of volunteers, They say this shows how big the hearts are of Upstate Staffers,

“They sent out an email first thing Friday morning,” recalled pharmacist Katie Triesel, “I called them maybe an hour later and he’s like we’ve had so much response for this. It made me proud to be a part of Upstate.”

Stony Brook has been overwhelmed with coronavirus patients and built a temporary hospital on the school's football field to help treat patients.
