The Bills will host Bears this weekend and their quarterback room is changing again.

Recently signed Derek Anderson was named the starter two weeks ago, but as he works through the concussion protocol it's likely Nathan Peterman will start and the newly signed Matt Barkley will be the backup.

The start of Peterman's career has been nothing short of a nightmare. Yet here he is, on the verge of getting his fourth career start.

"I'm confident and I believe his teammates are confident in Nathan," said Bills head coach Sean McDermott.

The Bills had confidence in Peterman to start the year based on his solid preseason performance, but the plot twisted when the results counted; Peterman has 10 interceptions in 84 career attempts.

"I think it's been different scenarios that happen," Peterman said. "They're different in the regular season than in the preseason, for sure, but at the same time, football is football. Like I said, sometimes the ball bounces your way and it doesn't other times. Mistakes are in the past. I've learned from them. I've taken them to heart. For sure I'll never forget them, but at the same time I'm going to learn from them and move on and football is a new game every week."

It's only natural to wonder how those past problems don't creep into Peterman's mind when taking the field again.

"You just have to keep your confidence high," he said. "Obviously learn from those mistakes, but be the same player you've been all along and go out there and rip it and the chips will fall as they lie."

The Bills aren't putting all their chips in on Peterman, as they signed Barkley this week. McDermott was non-committal as to Barkley's exact role on Sunday. While it's safe to assume it's as a back-up role, Barkley is getting up to speed as if he'll be thrown right into the fire.

“I’m treating this week like anything is possible,” Barkley said. “I mean, especially in this league, I’m preparing today like I’d be playing. The coaches have been great in terms of just letting me dive in. I got a few reps today, some easy stuff. The offense is similar to what I’ve run before, the terminology is a little different, but football is football. You got to be able to execute, so preparing like you can play, just to be ready.”

Quarterback has been up in the air all season for the Bills, and the uncertainty at the povitial position continues Sunday when the 2-6 Bills host the 4-3 Bears at New Era Field 1 p.m. Sunday.
