ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. -- Thousands of children in need in Onslow County will get to open toys on Christmas morning.

It’s all thanks to the annual Onslow Christmas Cheer program.

On Thursday, 500 families shopped for their children with more than 200 volunteers to help wade through the aisle of toys.

Organizers say their goal is to help each child feel the love of a caring family and caring community during the holiday season.

This year, Onslow Christmas Cheer will assist 4,900 people in need across Onslow County

Of that number, 2,700 are children.

With the help of community donations, the program will distribute 20,000 toys, valued at $180,000.
