MOORE COUNTY -- Snow still surrounds the peach trees at Kalawi Farm near Eagle Springs. That cold means the buds on those trees will remain dormant for a while longer --- and that's a good thing, according to the folks that run that farm.

Peaches need a certain amount of time remaining in this state, dormant before they can flower and blosson. If hat happens too early at this time of year, and in a couple of months a big freeze arrives, that could be a big disaster for their peaches. That very thing has occurred here the last two years.

But because it has been a cold winter so far and the buds on the trees are remaining closed, there's some optimism about the potential for the peaches in this area this year.
