PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA — The Carolina Panthers rallied from 17-0 down in the fourth quarter to beat the defending Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles 21-17 Sunday in the “City of Brotherly Love.”

Carolina quarterback Cam Newton engineered three touchdown drives, the last of which a 1-yard pass to tight end Greg Olsen with a 1:22 left in the game to give the Panthers the lead.

The win matched the franchise record for largest comeback victory.

The Eagles had a chance to win the game late, but on 4th and 2 from the Panthers 14-yard line, the Carolina defense got to Philadelphia quarterback Carson Wentz as defensive end Julius Peppers got the sack and forced a fumble that was eventually recovered by the Panthers Kyle Love.

Philadelphia took a 7-0 lead in the second quarter as Wentz threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Alshon Jeffery. A 46-yard field goal by Jake Elliott made it 10-0 Eagles at the half.

Wentz threw his second touchdown pass of the game with 39 seconds left in the third quarter when he connected to Dallas Goedert for a 17-0 lead.

Newton rallied the Panthers in the fourth quarter. He marched Carolina 80 yards on 11 plays, capped by a 14-yard touchdown run by receiver Curtis Samuel on a reverse. The point after was no good by Graham Gano and Carolina still trailed 17-6.

Later in the quarter, Newton marched his team 87-yards and found Devin Funchess in the endzone from 18-yards out. Newton made good on the two-point conversion to Jarius Wright and just like that the Panthers trailed by three with 4:08 left in the game.

Once again the defense held Philadelphia to a three and out; allowing Newton to drive the offense 69 yards on 10 plays, ending with the touchdown pass from Newton to Olsen.

Newton threw for 269 yards and two touchdowns and no interceptions. Funchess had six receptions fro 62 yards and a touchdown.

The win improves Carolina to 4-2 on the season while the Eagles fall to 3-4.
