GREENSBORO, N.C. -- When the Wyndham Championship moved back to Sedgefield in 2007, the tournament was in a stage of transition. More than 10 years later, tournament director Mark Brazil and his staff can get ready for another big transition.

  • The Wyndham Rewards Top 10 will split $10 million amongst the top 10 players in the FedEx Cup
  • The tournament will be played two weeks earlier next year from Aug. 1-4
  • The Wyndham Rewards bonus will award the top golfer with $2 million

The PGA Tour announced a new bonus that Wyndham will sponsor. The Wyndham Rewards Top 10 will split $10 million amongst the top 10 players in the FedEx Cup standings at the end of the regular season.

The Wyndham Championship is the last tournament of the regular season and the excitement of this announcement can only mean some of the biggest names in golf entering the field at the Sedgefield Country Club. The tournament will be played two weeks earlier next year from Aug. 1-4. The announcement will make the Wyndham Championship more intriguing for top golfers who are playing for the FedEx Cup playoffs, that will play only three tournaments starting next year. Those ranked in the top 20 cannot only increase their chance at the bonus money but they will also give themselves a better ranking heading into the playoffs.

The Wyndham Rewards bonus will award the top golfer with $2 million. Second place will take home $1.5 million with the amounts lessening to 10th place who will take home $500,000. An exciting bonus that will see top golfers vying for $60 million in payouts from the FedEx Cup playoffs, up from $35 million this year.

The changes will have the crowds resembling that of the 2015 tournament when Tiger Woods played at Sedgefield. Tournament Director Mark Brazil has already gotten positive responses from some of the biggest names and expect to see some commitments from those names and more for the 2019 Wyndham Championship.
