Troutman--Mooresville receiver Justin Torrence caught two touchdown passes to lead the Blue Devils to a 38-7 win over South Iredell.

  • South Iredell falls to 2-3

Because of the threat of Hurricane Florence, the game was moved from Friday night to Thursday in order to get the game played.

Mooresville (4-0) scored on its opening drive as Torrence a caught a 42-yard pass from Hunter Deberardino for an early 7-0 lead. Running back Glenwood Robinson made it 14-0 in the second quarter.

South Iredell (2-3) was able to move the ball in the first half but twice came up empty in the redzone by missing a field goal in the first quarter and then fumbling inside the Mooresville 5 yard line, which the Blue Devils recovered.

A play later, Torrence was at it again catching a screen pass and sprinting 93 yards to the endzone for a 21-0 Mooresville lead.

"It was about to go into halftime and we needed a quick score and we was only on like the 5 yard line," said Torrence, "They called the play for me. I just made it work."

"Our defense played a lot of bend but don't break tonight, especially down near the goal line," added Mooresville Head Coach Thad Wells. "You know we just keep on pushing them and trying to get them to just fight and get better and better. You know they had a pretty good night tonight."

Mooresville improved to 4-0 on the season and faces 4-0 North Mecklenburg next week.

South Iredell falls to 2-3 and hits the road against West Forsyth.
