CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- This weekend will be the eighth trip to the Super Regionals for North Carolina. However, this passel of players is ecstatic to be making their first appearance.

  • Carolina erupted for 34 runs over three games last weekend
  • UNC counters with Cooper Criswell and Luca Dalatri in the first two games
  • The best of three series starts at 11 a.m. Friday

“It's exciting, the guys, you can feel the energy, just the vibes around the stadium and off the field are just, they're fun,” explained first baseman Michael Busch.

“I think it's always good to host and be in this environment,” said senior infielder Zack Gahagan. “I mean you got the home crowd behind you, hopefully we'll have a good crowd like we did last week that helped us.”

The Tar Heels have proven all season their bats can come alive. In last weekend's regional, Carolina erupted for 34 runs over three games.

"I like where we are offensively, all our players have brought into on base percentage, walks are good, do what you can at this at-bat to help this team win,” stated Head Coach Mike Fox.

Stetson’s strength comes from their pitching. The Hatters’ team era ranks tops in the county, and they strike out nearly 10.5 batters per 9 innings. UNC counters with Cooper Criswell and Luca Dalatri in the first two games.

"Their pitching numbers are, I mean they're scary,” Fox said. “Obviously just on paper, that's the strength of their team so we're going to have to match them on the mound for sure."

"We know they have some good arms, and we prepare for that and we'll be ready Friday, Saturday and Sunday,” Gahagan added.

Boshamer Stadium will be rocking this weekend, and this group won't be short of confidence.

"We showed last weekend that if we keep it close that we can pull it out. We've got good pitching and we know we've got to be able to play defense and score when we need to,” Gahagan said.

The best of three series starts at 11 a.m. Friday.
