J.B. Ricks Sr. has been with the Spectrum News team since the fall of 2011. J.B.’s tremendous passion for sports, the history that comes with it, and the opportunity to cover stories he’ll be telling his grandchildren about one day are the things that inspire him each morning when he arrives to the Raleigh newsroom.

Previous to joining Spectrum News, J.B. graduated from Michigan State University, where he later spent three years covering sports for WJRT in Flint, Michigan. From there, J.B. spent a two-year stint in the Big Apple before finally making the move down South for warmer weather and the famous Duke-North Carolina rivalry. He spent five years stationed in the Triad within our Greensboro newsroom before taking advantage of a tremendous opportunity as the weekend anchor for the Chevrolet Sports Night in the Triangle.

While J.B. has covered too many notable stories to count, one he’ll never forget is his coverage of Super Bowl 50. Leading up to it, J.B. helped provide extensive coverage of the Panthers' 15-1 regular season and playoff run to Super Bowl 50. Overall, J.B. considers this to be the most fun and exciting year of his career to date. He has covered over a dozen Duke-UNC rivalry games, multiple ACC tournaments and now he is living out his dream of anchoring a 30-minute sports show on a weekly basis.

When J.B. isn’t covering the latest game or keeping you entertained on the Chevrolet Sports Night, you can find him spending time with his son, his family, and friends all while enjoying the sunshine and Southern hospitality that North Carolina has provided him with for nearly a decade.
