CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- North Carolina's chances of contending for a national championship next year got a whole lot better once Luke Maye decided to withdraw his name from the NBA draft.

Maye came off a junior campaign where he earned first-team All-ACC and third-team All-American honors in 2017-2018.

He averaged 16.9 points and over 10 rebounds per game.

He was the ACC's most improved player after increasing his scoring average by 11.4 points per game from his sophomore to junior year.

Maye decided to test the NBA waters without hiring representation which allowed him to return for his final year of eligibility.
