"Star Wars" fans got another look at the origins of their favorite spacefaring, blaster-wielding smuggler early Monday, as Disney and Lucasfilm released the first official trailer for "Solo: A Star Wars Story."

  • "Solo" latest "Star Wars Anthology" film
  • Follows success of "Rogue One" in 2016
  • "Solo" opens in U.S. theaters May 25

The trailer dropped a little over six weeks before the film opens in North America on May 25, 2018. "Star Wars" fans got their first glimpse at the young Captain Solo, played by Alden Ehrenreich, in a teaser trailer released last February.

The full trailer reveals a little more about the story in "Solo," as well as teasing memorable interactions between the charismatic scoundrel and the film's supporting cast, including (of course) longtime fan favorites Chewbacca and a young Lando Calrissian, played by Donald Glover.

"Solo: A Star Wars Story" made headlines for far different reasons in 2017 when Lucasfilm and Disney announced veteran film director Ron Howard was taking over directing duties on the film after its original directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, were let go.

Lord and Miller had been working on the film for 4 and 1/2 at the time they were fired. Lucasfilm and Disney cited "creative differences" in explaining parting ways with Lord and Miller.

The change resulted in weeks of reshoots. However, the film remained on schedule to be released on May 25, 2018, the 41st anniversary of the release of the original "Star Wars" in 1977.

"Solo: A Star Wars Story" also stars Emilia Clarke (HBO's "Game of Thrones"), Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, and Paul Bettany. To learn more, visit starwars.com.
