RALEIGH, N.C. – Wake County Sheriff-Elect Gerald Baker says he's ready to take his seat at the table.

Baker was brought to tears Monday by the outpouring of support at a community celebration in honor of him winning the election.

He says there are a few things he wants to start working on right away, including understaffing at the jail and looking into a program where some deputies perform immigration enforcement duties for ICE.

Overall he says he's looking to make the sheriff's office transparent and accountable.

“There was so many things that you couldn’t see, the internal organizational management was in a bad shape so we had to get out and let the people know about those things and so once everyone began to see all the things that were concerns, then they all sent a message very clearly that it was time for new leadership in that office,” says Gerald Baker.

Baker is expected to be sworn in December 3rd.
