From late Monday morning through early Tuesday morning, just over four inches of rain fell at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. Another one to three inches of rain is possible around central North Carolina through the rest of this week. Much of that will come Wednesday night and Thursday.

We will not see nearly as much rain during the day Tuesday compared to Monday afternoon and night. Look for off and on showers with rain totals around a quarter of an inch or less. Afternoon temperatures will range from the mid 50s around the Triangle to near 60 from Fayetteville to Goldsboro.

Much of the day Wednesday will be dry. However, we will still have cloudy skies and it will be quite chilly. Temperatures will hold in the 40s all day.

Another complex low pressure system will then develop across the southeastern United States. That will bring rain to central North Carolina from Wednesday night through Thursday. In the mountains and foothills of the state, a period of freezing rain is expected. Here in the Triangle and Sandhills, we expect just a chilly rain.  Early morning lows Thursday will be in the upper 30s. Temperatures will only warm to the mid 40s during the day.

All of the rain should come to an end Thursday evening. Dry conditions are in the forecast from Friday through the upcoming weekend.
