Rain has returned to the Carolinas today as expected, and it looks like we're in for some pretty soggy days ahead. A strong area of low pressure from the Gulf of Mexico is currently tracking northeast across the southeast United States. The low will move through the Carolinas overnight through Tuesday morning. Quickly behind the low, a cold front will sweep through ushering in much cooler air. Another area of low pressure will approach the state Thursday providing another round of rain.

Rain intensity will pick up Monday night into Tuesday morning as the low tracks over the state. A few rumbles of thunder are possible but severe weather is not a concern. A few pockets of intense rain will be possible, and flash flooding is a potential hazard. If you live in a poor drainage area or near a body of water, remain aware of your surroundings.

After sunrise Tuesday, rain activity will slack off until the cold front moves through beginning midday and through the afternoon. Tuesday morning will likely feature cloudy skies and isolated showers. Scattered showers are likely by the afternoon as the front moves through.

Weak high pressure will be in the region Wednesday as we await another area of low pressure. Isolated to scattered showers will be possible Wednesday afternoon, but the bulk of the rain associated with this low will fall Thursday.

By Friday we dry off as skies gradually clear. A dry and weakening cold will slide through during the weekend but not impact the area with rain. Expect mostly sunny conditions Saturday and Sunday.
