FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- One of the reasons Fayetteville is known as the All-American City is because of its strong connection to all things military, especially their next door neighbors in the U.S. Army at Fort Bragg.

Veterans Day is always a big deal around the city. On Saturday, as several events were going on to honor those who've served, we had an opportunity to speak with a few local veterans and let them explain why this particular holiday means so much to them.

"It signifies that we did serve. We served honorably and we enjoyed serving our country, our community, our nation. And it's just an important time for us," said JoAnn Blyther. She served in the Army for over 30 years.

Veterans Day 2018 is special. The holiday falls on the 100th anniversary of the armistice that ended the World War I. Veterans Day was first known as Armistice Day and it recognized the service of veterans of the Great War. In the 1950s, the holiday was changed to pay tribute to the service of all veterans.
