FORT BRAGG, N.C. -- Second Lady Karen Pence visited Fort Bragg and Moore County Friday.

  • Mrs. Pence met with soldiers at Fort Bragg and their spouses
  • She honored soldiers who helped during hurricane Florence
  • She also visited a business that employs military spouses
“As the Second Lady of the United States I’d love to elevate, encourage, and thank our military spouses wherever I go,” she said during an event.

The military mom and daughter of a serviceman, spoke at the Military One Source event, which provides support and resources for military families.

“You are the home front heroes. You’re the ones who stay at home and are really being the heroes in your home and I think its so great,” she told them.

In addition to meeting military spouses, she spent time with soldiers who helped rescue flood victims during hurricane Florence. She also handed out a rare coin in honor of their dedication and service.

“It was awesome to see that people are still appreciative of everything we did. We didn’t do it for any kudos or anything like that, but it’s great to see that we’re appreciated,” Second Lt. Kate Taylor said.

Mrs. Pence ended her day by heading over to Moore County where she visited a business that employs military spouses.

Thursday she shared on social media how she was preparing for the visit.
