ORANGE COUNTY, N.C. – A suspect is in custody after a woman died from being shot in the head at a barn party in Cedar Grove Sunday.

  • Two people were shot at a barn party in Orange County over the weekend.
  • One of them was 18 years old and shot in the head.
  • Xzavier Gibson was arrested Tuesday; police are searching for Takeem Turrentine.

Authorities were called to the barn at 5223 Mill Creek Road early Sunday morning.

When deputies arrived they saw a large group of people leaving the scene. It is estimated that around 300 high schoolers and adults were present at the time of the shooting. An altercation led to the shooting.

They found an 18-year-old Rashiya Melton shot in the head behind the barn.

She was airlifted to the hospital but died Monday afternoon.

Another victim, Josue LeBron, was shot in the leg but was treated and released from the hospital Monday.

Police arrested Xzavier D'Andre Gibson in Alamance County Tuesday afternoon. He is charged with one count of murder and is being held in the Orange County Detention Center under no bond.

 

 

 

 

A second suspect, Takeem "Mudd" Haywood Norris Turrentine, is being sought by police. He has a warrant for one count of murder, is known to frequent the Mebane area and should be considered armed and dangerous.
