WAKE COUNTY, N.C. – Raleigh has been named the best city in North Carolina and eighth in the country for best cities to get a job in.

  • Raleigh is the #1 city in the state to get a job in.
  • It's the #8 city in America.
  • Pittsburgh is the best overall.

According to the app Glassdoor, Raleigh has more than 49,000 job openings.

The median base salary for Raleigh is $50,000 per year.

North Carolina's overall unemployment rate has dropped to 3.9 percent.

Many in the home building and construction industries say blue collar workers are in high demand right now, and executives say anyone looking for a job in the construction industry won't have a hard time finding one here.

"I think the jobs are available and I think there is no change in sight in that regard. There's going to be growth in the Raleigh-Durham area for the foreseeable future and i think that you would have a great place to start or advance your career by coming here," said Bob Williams, a vice president with Messer Construction

The biggest issue concerning Paul Kane with the Home Builder's Association of Raleigh and Wake County is the lack of interest from young students to do blue collar jobs.

"You got to have the hammer swingers. You got to have people willing to roll their sleeves back and get things done," he said.

The top cities for jobs according to Glassdoor are Pittsburgh, St. Louis, and Indianapolis.
