CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- It's a birthday this teenager will remember for the rest of his life thanks to a motorcycle club from South Carolina.

  • Jacio Parker celebrated turning 15 years old in a special way
  • His mother says none of the people she invited wanted to show up to his birthday party
  • A motorcycle club from South Carolina wanted to celebrate the special day with him

Jacio Parker has Down Syndrome, but his mom, Stephanie Patterson, still wanted him to celebrate his 15th birthday with classmates and friends.

She says she sent out party invitations in September and not a single person responded 'yes' to the invite.

"I started getting calls. People saying they don't want to come because he's disabled, and they're uncomfortable with their kids around him," Patterson said.

She says the same thing happened last year, and after countless responses, she took to Facebook to voice her disappointment. Her post caught the eye of Smiley Dutton, a member of the Bonded By Brotherhood motorcycle club in Anderson, SC.

"My son has Down Syndrome, so I connected on that thinking about what if this was my son," Dutton said.

For the last two years, the club has come to Charlotte to celebrate Jacio's birthday and the life-long friendships they've made.

"His look on his face when they come and show up, the look of acceptance and love will always stick in my heart," Patterson said.

The club says they plan to make this an annual trip.
