FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Three historic buildings that will be a part of the new Civil War Museum are being moved this week.

  • They'll be renovated for new uses in education and research at the NC Civil War and Reconstruction History Center
  • The goal for the new museum will be to tell the complete story of the impact of the war on everybody in the state
  • The total cost for the museum will be $65,000,000

All three will be renovated for new uses in education and research at the North Carolina Civil War and Reconstruction History Center.

The goal of organizers for the new museum will be to tell the complete story of the impact of the war on everybody in the state, and that means everybody.

"Whether they were slaves or free, whether they were ministers or farmers or business people. Whether they were Native Americans, men, women, everybody," said Marc Barnes, spokesperson for the History Center.

The total cost for the museum will be $65,000,000. So far, $27,000,000 has been raised through both private donations and grants from the state, city and Cumberland County.

Renovation of the three Civil War era buildings is expected to be finished by the summer of 2019. Construction of the main museum should begin in 2020.
