WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-- In their summer workouts Parkland High School believed this would be a special season.

  • Martin Samek is in his sixth season
  • The Mustangs are sitting at 9-0 on the season
  • Friday the team takes on James B. Dudley High School

They began to tell people around them to get ready. The Mustangs were right, sitting at 9-0 on the season and scoring close to 44 points per game. Head coach Martin Samek is in his sixth season and leads an unselfish bunch.

Friday night, Parkland looks at James B. Dudley High School as a chance to prove themselves and put a stamp on the season and maybe the Piedmont Triad 3A conference. Parkland is tied with Dudley and Mt. Tabor with undefeated conference records.

Dudley enters the match up with a 7-1 record and a new voice leading the huddle. Tawahn Young took over the quarterback position three games ago and gave the Panther some stability at the position. Dudley has averaged 35 points per game with him under center and the defense allows only 12 points per game in conference play.

The six time state champion knows teams look at them as a chance to make a name for themselves. The winner of the game may seal their fate as the conference champion on Friday night.
