NORTH CAROLINA – The N.C. State Fair will not open Thursday as expected due to Hurricane Michael.

  • The N.C. State Fair's opening has been delayed.
  • It will open Friday instead of Thursday.
  • Tickets purchased ahead of time will still be good for any day of the fair.

Officials say the fair will instead open Friday at 10 a.m.

This is the first time in more than ten years that the fair had to push back its opening.

Strong wind gusts and several inches of rain are expected as Michael moves through the state.

All tickets purchased ahead of time will be good for any days of the fair.

"The weather forecast beyond the storm passing is beautiful, it's going to turn a little bit cooler and the fair weather, so we look forward to inviting and having all the fairgoers just alter their plans and come a different day. We feel like the overall impact to the fair will be minimal if any," said Ken Yelverton, NC State Fair Manager.

Last year, more than 1 million people made their way to the fairgrounds over the 11-day period, and Day 1 had a record-breaking attendance of more than 57,000 people.
