RALEIGH, N.C. -- "Stop Kavanagh" is the message some in Raleigh sent Thursday night in protest.

  • NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina, Planned Parenthood, and the ACLU are sponsoring
  • Earlier Thursday, protestors took to the streets in Washington, D.C. with the same message
  • Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) voted to advance Kavanaugh's nomination to the full Senate

Those with a number of organizations like NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina, Planned Parenthood, and the ACLU all sponsored the rally as debate in Washington, D.C. heats up over the Supreme Court nominee.

Hundreds gathered to call on lawmakers to stop the confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanagh, trying specifically to reach Sen. Thom Tillis, who is on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

At least one person attended to stand in solidarity with Kavanaugh.

"They don't care about due process when it comes to men and rape accusations. They think these accusations should be taken at face value without evidence, when they say believe women they mean don’t believe men," said counter protester Luke Rohlfing.

Earlier Thursday, protestors took to the streets in Washington with the same message, gathering in front of the Supreme Court to stop the nomination.

They're calling for a new nominee after allegations of sexual assault and inappropriate sexual behavior against the judge surfaced, saying that they stand with Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and believe her.

Kavanaugh denies the allegations.

In a tweet earlier Thursday, Sen. Thom Tillis essentially said the FBI had no evidence to back up the claims and echoed that in a press conference later in the afternoon.

"Dr. Ford, I firmly believe experienced the traumatic event in her life I just also believe that there is no evidence that we've seen through the FBI background checks, through the time that we've spent in the hearing to substantiate that these claims are properly alleged and directed toward Judge Kavanaugh," said Sen. Thom Tillis, (R) North Carolina.

Tillis voted to advance Kavanagh’s nomination to the full Senate, and is expected to vote to confirm him to sit on the U.S. Supreme Court.
