The calendar says early October but it feels more like late August in central North Carolina, and it's about to get even hotter.

Temperatures will return to the mid 80s Wednesday afternoon under a mix of clouds and sun.  A few locations in the Sandhills could see the upper 80s.  Lows will then only drop to around 70 late Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

Thursday now appears to the the warmest day of the week with highs topping out around 90 across the Triangle and the low 90s in the Sandhills.

A cold front will move into the state from the north by Friday and Saturday.  It will not bring a significant cool down though.   Friday's highs should range from the low to mid 80s from the Virginia border to the Triangle.  The Sandhills should see the upper 80s.  The low to mid 80s are forecast across the region Saturday.

The front will bring a chance for a few afternoon showers and storms Friday and Saturday.

Highs in the 80s are expected to continue into much of next week.

Normal, or average, highs for central North Carolina in early October are in the mid to upper 70s.
