AVERY COUNTY, N.C. -- We're only two days into fall, but people are already picking Christmas trees.

  • The Blue Room Christmas tree was selected in Avery County
  • The tree is 20 feet tall
  • It will be presented to the president and first lady in November

Monday morning members of the White House staff traveled to Avery County to pick out this year's special tree.

It's 20 feet tall and will be part of the decorations in the Blue Room.

Staff members say the tree is exactly what they were looking for.

“The White House is a story of its nation and Avery County is a part of that story and we are able to continue that into the Christmas season here for 2018. And we are just excited. Now Larry Smith (Christmas tree farmer) is going to be part of that history and it will certainly be a beautiful tree once it's up there.”

Staff members will present the tree to President Donald Trump and the first lady in November.
