FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- After water receded, search and rescue workers from New York City police and fire departments assisted Fayetteville firefighters looking for anyone in need of help.

  • They were also told to be careful in homes and areas that still had water
  • Local leaders say after making sure everyone is ok, the next big priority is getting traffic moving
  • Roads and bridges will need repair

They were also told to be careful in homes and areas that still had water because utility companies were turning power back on.

Local leaders say after making sure everyone is ok, the next big priority is getting traffic moving because so many roads have been closed for days.

"Some of the roads and bridges may need repairs, even if they're minor," said Spring Lake town manager Daniel Gerald. "Here along Route 210, the railing was pushed over a little and there are a few cracks in the asphalt that may have been caused by all that weather."

Residents and first responders say this has been one of the most difficult weeks of their lives and they are ready to get back to some form of normalcy.
