NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. – New Hanover County is slowly recovering after being hit hard by Hurricane Florence.

The entire county has been deemed a federal disaster area.

Officials say they have slowly been able to reopen areas like Carolina Beach, Kure Beach and Wrightsville to residents, but other parts of the county have been deemed unsafe due to developing sink holes under flooded roads.

Access to Wilmington is extremely limited, and safety for travel is not guaranteed.

According to State Highway Patrol. two routes into Wilmington have reopened.

Crews are also working to restore power to more than 60,000 homes in the county.

Federal funds for recovery have already been approved by President Trump and FEMA.
