NORTH CAROLINA – Multiple deaths have been linked to Hurricane Florence, which has now been downgraded to a tropical storm. 

Mother, infant dead after tree falls on house

A 41-year-old mother and her 7-month-old infant are dead after a tree fell on their house in Wilmington Sept. 14. Police say a family of three was in a home on Mercer Avenue this morning around 9:30 when a tree fell into the property. The father was transported to the hospital with injuries.

 

Woman dies from heart attack in Pender County

In Pender County, a woman died from a heart attack after paramedics were not able to get to her. 

 

Man dies after plugging in generator

A 68-year-old man was killed when plugging in a generator Sept. 14 in Lenoir County, according to a release from Gov. Roy Cooper's office. 

 

Man dies after being knocked to the ground 

In Lenoir County, a 77-year-old man was knocked to the ground while outside and died due to a cardiac event on Sept. 13/14.

 

Death at West Brunswick High School shelter

There was a death at the West Brunswick High School shelter on Thursday morning. The death not related to the hurricane and it is under investigation. The shelter remains safe. 

 

Man hits his head and dies

An 81-year-old man in Wayne County who fell and struck his head while packing to evacuate on Sept. 14

 

First South Carolina death 

A 61-year-old woman was killed late Friday when the vehicle she was driving struck a tree that had fallen across Highway 18 near the town of Union. Capt. Kelley Hughes of the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the woman, who was wearing a seat belt, died at the scene. No passengers were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The tree was about 6 feet above the road surface. Hughes said the vehicle's roof is what struck the tree.

 

Duplin County fatalities

Three people died in Duplin County due to flash flooding on roadways. 

 

 
 
Three more fatalities in South Carolina
 
SCDPS confirmed the deaths of a man and woman who died in Horry County from carbon monoxide poisoning. Another woman died when her vehicle struck a tree in the road in Union County. 
 
 
3 month old dies after tree falls on mobile home
 
The child has died as a result of injuries sustained when a tree fell on a mobile home. The incident occurred in Dallas, North Carolina, around 1:30 p.m.
 
Person dies at shelter in New Hanover County
 
A person has died at the shelter held at Hoggard High School in New Hanover County. The cause of the death is being investigated
