RALEIGH, N.C. -- Runners in the Triangle marked the upcoming anniversary of the 9/11 attacks with a special event Sunday.

  • It's the third year of the event
  • About 150 people attended
  • Money donated goes to USO or Doctors Without Borders

This is the third year students at NC State hosted a 9/11 Memorial Run, with about 150 people participating this year.

Organizers say it's important to remember that terrible day.

“A lot of our young people were not born yet during the events of 9/11, so the fact that they are out here and the fact we are continuing to honor that day and the lives lost of both citizens and first responders is important to our country to show we are a revenant country,” said Cary PD’s Asst. Chief Tony Dezomes.

The memorial run is a non-profit, but any money not used to support the run is donated to USO or Doctors Without Borders.
